Life & How to Live It: Ephesians 2

"How do I join God's family?" is probably the most important question a person could ask.  Following up from last week's discussion of destiny, if your destiny is indeed to be a part of God's kingdom and family forever, what do you need to do?  And how would it even be possible?

Ephesians 2 provides us with the answer: GRACE.  The salvation God offers us has nothing to do with our own attempts at being a good person, or our religious labels, rituals or devotion.  According to Ephesians 2, God graciously gives us salvation and eternal life as an unearned and undeserved gift.

Another exciting part of Ephesians 2 is verse 10, which describes the reason that God saves us and gives us new life, "so that we can do the good things He planned for us long ago."  If anyone wanted proof that God has an incredible destiny in mind for us, there it is!  Paul spends the second half of the book (chapters 4-6) describing exactly what some of those "good things" are.

For Further Study:

  • Learn why grace is so amazing by listening to Ray Comfort's message "Hell's Best Kept Secret."  (BTW, did you know that Ray preached this message at Weymouth years ago?  Yep, probably '94 or '95 he was here.)
  • Read through Psalm 145 and list ways that God has been gracious to you.

Questions to Comment On:

1. Why do you think people have a difficult time accepting salvation as a gift from God?

2. What factors in your own life first led you to appreciate God's grace?
